| About The
Course |
|
|
Between 1995 and 2004 SMPC worked as a field centre for Anniesland College in teaching and delivering the only two-year full-time training course in the U.K. - the HND Puppet Theatre Arts. The partnership with Anniesland College came to an end in June 2004 when the Senior Management Team of the College decided not to renew the agreement.
This course
was unique in the UK and offers the student the possibility to
study with the leading team of specialists in the country. The
student had access to the finest specialised library and
research resource of its kind.
The course
was taught exclusively at the Scottish Mask & Puppet Theatre Centre and focused
on the puppet in all of its forms as the central means of expression. It was validated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and was written and designed by Malcolm Knight. All modules are in the public domain and if you are an educational body you may locate and adapt them from the SQA catalogue
SMPC has a specialised suite of buildings which includes
studio theatre, design and carving workshops, library and research
unit, Internet facilities exhibition spaces and catering facilities.
Also housed in the Centre is a unit which contains one of the
world’s finest collections of puppets, prints, engravings and
original works, and a bibliotech with 4000 books on the puppet
theatre, drama theatre, mime, dance, visual art and crafts, folklore
and myths, legends and children’s literature. We are now planning to establish an International Study Centre on site for scholars and researchers to replace the Course.
