CHILDREN & FAMILY PROGRAMME 2010
Shows: Child £4.95 Adults £5.50 / Workshops £7.00
incl. materials
Shows Suitable for 3 years + Reservations: 0141 339 6185. Tickets must be collected: minimum 15 minutes before the start of the performance. Payment: cash or cheque on the door. Cancellations: by 11am on the day.
Shows vary between 45 minutes - one hour in duration. Workshops are up to two hours in duration.

SMPC’s children and family programme aims to introduce you to touring companies both national and international. Their work includes aspects of glove, rod, marionette, shadow, table-top and black light puppet theatre. We also promote performances, which use mask, mime, storytelling, music, magic and entertainment. We endeavour to give birthday mentions to all children if informed in advance.
We reserve the right to make any changes deemed necessary to our programme.
SAT 16 JAN THE THREE BEARS * CLYDEBUILT PUPPET THEATRE 2.00PM
Porridge, porridge, porridge, the three bears love it! Goldilicks lives above a syrup factory and has never tasted this delicious dish - until she visits the three bears. Shopping, healthy eating, and fun are the key elements of Clydebuilt’s show.
SAT 23 JAN SIGURD THE DRAGON SLAYER * FOLDING THEATRE CO. 2.00PM
Young Sigurd has a proud heritage but has never learned to fear. So he sets out to find someone who will teach him.Throughout his adventures he slays dragons and rescues maidens before finally meeting Brunhilde, daughter of Odin and learns the one emotion that no-one else could teach him. Love! Ahh…
SAT 30 JAN OSCAR & THE QUEST FOR THE UNDERGROUND PRINCESS * MOUSETALE 2.00PM & 3.45PM
How can a mother mouse keep her son out of mischief? She can’t! Oscar is irresistibly drawn into an underground myth when he receives a mysterious riddle to solve. Armed with nothing but a cream bun and an electric guitar, he has lots of fun along the way!
SAT 6 FEB LOOKING FOR NESSIE * TALKING HEADS PUPPETS 2.00PM
Do you believe in the Loch Ness Monster? Maybe Angus McGregor, the keeper of the Loch's secret, can help you to see Nessie! What about little Jack, can you and Angus convince him that Nessie exists? Laughter and fun from Talking Heads Puppets, and watch out for Cheeky Robert!
SAT 20 FEB THE THREE PIGS* KIDGLOVE PUPPETS 2.00PM & 3.45PM
A delightful triple bill of short stories by Kidglove Puppets from Aberdeen; The Three Little Pigs, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Three Bears. Along with Algy the Dog who always makes a naughty but fun guest appearance before the show!
SAT 6 MAR THE PAPER BAG PRINCESS * PAVLA’S PUPPETS 2.00PM
“Princess Elizabeth is beautiful and rich and about to marry Prince Ronald…until a dragon destroys her castle, burns all her clothes and carries off her Prince, How could he! However Elizabeth is no ordinary princess. She is off to get Ronald back”……!.
SAT 13 MAR LIGHT & SHADOW PUPPET WORKSHOP * SMPC 10.00AM
Come and learn to make a shadow puppet and use it on our touch screen. Create your very own puppet to take away, which you can then use at home. As Easter is nearly here maybe it will be an Easter Bunny or a colourful Easter Egg puppet….or something completely different…you can choose.

A rod puppet workshop that never fails to delight children and adults alike. Come and make your own character from all the bits and bobs. Will your puppet have a big nose or spiky hair… How comical will your puppet be? Guaranteed to evoke laughter and lots of fun.

In preparation for events to celebrate Mr Punch’s 350th birthday in 2012. Mr Punch is coming to town with his own inimitable style, not forgetting Judy, the Crocodile, the Sausgages and the Policeman. Get ready to shout ‘He’s behind you’ and join in humour and tradition….
SAT 24 APR THE FISHERMAN’S WIFE * COLLABORATORS 2.00PM in English & 3.45PM in French
Day after day the fisherman took his boat out and threw his net into the sea, but day after day the net remained empty ! One day an enchanted fish arrived in his net and the fishermans’ wife demanded something in exchange for granting the fish its freedom…’ Inspired by a popular and universal legend, the story highlights some human frailties with humour, lightness and poetry.
SAT 8 MAY MUCKLEMOUTH MEG * POPPIE’S PUPPETS 2.00 PM
The true story of how the ugliest lassie in the Borders got to marry the best lookin’ laddie from Selkirk. The heroine of this tale was regarded as ‘nane sae bonnie’; Muckle (big) Mou’ed Meg was ‘sae ugly’ that her father could not find her a husband! But looks are not everything…..
SAT 22 MAY THE MAGIC HORSE * YUGEN PUPPETS 2.00PM
Meet a Magic Horse that takes you wherever in the world that you wish to go and Fingle the hero of our story who takes the Magic Horse on an adventure to find a princess for a very lazy prince
SAT 5 JUN TOY THEATRE WORKSHOP * ROBERT POULTER NEW MODEL THEATRE 10.00AM
A one off special workshop with Robert (all the way from Kent) involving all aspects of making a mini- theatrical production; storyboard, design, making, sound, music, dialogue, lighting and movement, culminating in a short performance. There is no age barrier to taking part.
SAT 5 JUN THE BUCCANEER’S BRIDE * ROBERT POULTER NEW MODEL THEATRE 2.00 & 3.45PM
The mysterious prediction of a fortune teller sends the pirates on a hunt for Treasure Island, but is it a wild goose chase and who do they encounter along the way and who is the Bucanneer’s Bride? Traditional toy theatre at its best with music, lighting and sound effects. Maximum Audience 40
SAT 12 JUN CARIBBEAN JOE* MR GIGGLES 2.00PM
The holidays are nearly here and to get you in mood why not come and meet Carribean Joe, dressed ready for a tropical beach party. You can dress up too, sunglasses, hats and beachwear all welcome, during an afternoon of comedy magic with audience participation. Magic/ Entertainment Show.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES AT SMPC
Why not book a birthday party in conjunction with a Saturday performance (3yrs +) or book a birthday party puppet-making workshop for 5yrs + with some extra parental support or 7 yrs + with birthday parents. We provide the party food, organise the show party games and give each child a party bag to take away. We ask that you bring the cake…. and the kids.
RECYCLING PUPPET MAKING CAN YOU HELP?
At SMPC we like to recycle as much as we can and are always on the lookout for scrap fabric, wine corks and bottle tops make great puppet noses, knitting wools make great puppet hair. If you would like to have a clear please drop them in at the Puppet Centre any show Saturday . Thank you.

Shows suitable for 3 yrs and upwards. Reservations 0141 339 6185. All tickets must be collected at least 15 minutes before the start of the performance. Payment is by cash or cheque on the door on the day. If necessary, cancellation of a reservation by 11am on the day of the performance allows someone else to take your place. Thank you.
