SAT 19 JAN THREE WISHES * PAVLA’S PUPPETS 2.00 & 3.45PM
The Magic Green Man, grants the woodcutter and his wife three wishes, but they make some funny choices…! Followed by the gentle and delightful story ‘Can’t You Sleep Little Bear’, adapted for puppets from an original book by Martin Waddell.
SAT 26 JAN LOOKING FOR NESSIE * TALKING HEADS PUPPETS 2.00PM
Do you believe in the Loch Ness Monster? Maybe Angus McGregor, the keeper of the Loch's secret, can help you to see Nessie! And what about little Jack? Can you and Angus convince him that Nessie exists? Laughter and fun from Talking Heads Puppets!!
SAT 2 FEB STORMWATCHER SEA STORIES * CLYDEBUILT PUPPET THEATRE 2.00 PM
A beach-comer searches the shore each day for anything useful: rope bits of wood, broken fish boxes. With these he tells his stories, of Magic Lobsters, Seal Girls, King Canute and the Great Storms. A show rich in stories, using rod puppets and beach objects.
SAT 16 FEB OSCAR’S AMAZING SPACE ADVENTURE * MOUSETALE PUPPETS 2.00 & 3.45 PM
Oscar the Mouse, despite his mum’s best efforts to make him do his homework, always seems to have something more exciting planned. Oscar loves space adventures and so when a mysterious object lands in the garden shed, he can’t help investigating….
SAT 23 FEB WHAT’S RUBBISH WORKSHOP * DRAGONFLY DREAMING 10.00AM
We throw away rubbish everyday, but if we stretch our imagination a little bit, we may actually be able to see a body, or a face, or even a mouth….what can you see in an upside down plastic milk bottle? This workshop will invite you to delve amongst everyday household rubbish, you can even bring some and with a little adaptation find characters, then the rubbish can tell us it’s own story!
SAT 23 FEB THAT’S RUBBISH * DRAGONFLY DREAMING 2.00PM
Based on the principle inspired by the slogan ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ this puppet show aims to cut out the junk, keep all the good bits and introduce new idea’s from the same old rubbish. Join Skiprat and his giant yellow skip as he takes no more rubbish. A puppet show that is both educational and entertaining…..what the Skip’s going on?
SAT 1 MAR THE PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN * KIDGLOVE PUPPETS 2.00PM & 3.45PM
See the antics of Mr. Pratt the loveable but incompetent rat-catcher of Hamelin. He is sacked by the mayor in favour of a mysterious stranger who gets rid of the rats (but at what terrible price!) Join in with this and other tales from Kidglove Puppets.
SAT 8 MAR COMICAL CHARACTERS * PUPPET MAKING WORKSHOP 10.00AM & 2.00PM
In partnership with the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival www.glasgowcomedyfestival.com Come and have lots of puppet making pop up fun. What comical character would you like to make maybe a clown or what about Charlie Chaplin? All materials supplied and lots of bits and bobs to choose from to make your very own puppet.
SAT 15 MAR TWO CAN TOUCAN* FOLDING THEATRE COMPANY 2.00PM
In partnership with the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival www.glasgowcomedyfestival.com There was once a bird in the forest that was completely black, except for his white eyes, who was laughed at by all the other animals because he did not have a name. So he goes to seek his fortune - and perhaps find a name! All the fun and mayhem of the Toucans amazingly colourful journey to life in this adaptation of a much, loved modern fable by children’s author, David MacKee.
SAT 29 MAR ANCHORS AWAY * MR GIGGLES 2.00 PM
Anchors away with Pirate Pete who is in search of a fresh crew for a pirate adventure of magic, music, games and competitions aboard the high seas. Children are welcome to come dressed as Pirates, mermaids and fairies (optional) to make Pirate Pete feel at home.
SAT 26 APR THE LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER * CLIVE ANDREWS 2.00PM
A tale of lights, ship’s, dreams and the power of the imagination. A clowning adventure story featuring puppetry, dance, circus skills, mime and a little ukulele…. Oscar is a loveable fool, who takes his dream job as a Lighthouse Keeper, when a friendly hand reaches out to guide him through and save the day when disaster strikes…..
SAT 10 MAY THE MAGIC HORSE * YUGEN PUPPETS 2.00PM
Come and meet a Magic Horse that takes you wherever in the world that you wish to go and Fingle the hero of our story who takes the Magic Horse on an adventure to find a princess for a very lazy prince. Yugen Puppets bring this Scottish fairy tale to life.
SAT 17 MAY LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD AND FRIENDS*FLOTSAM & JETSAM 10.30 AM & 2.00PM
Little Red is off into the woods again to meet Mr. Wolf, or is it Papa Bear or maybe T Rex…Listen to some old stories, new stories and make-them-up-as-you-go-along stories. Then make a puppet and your off to the enchanted forest. Duration one and half hours - 30 minutes each of storytelling, puppet-making and role-playing with puppets. Max audience 15-20 children, 4 –9 yrs with minimum one accompanying adult per child or small group. Ticket Prices as standard Adults £4.75 Child £4.50.
SAT 31 MAY THE SLEEPING GIANT AND THE GARDEN GUZZLER * SYLVIA TROON 2.00PM
Storytelling with puppets, the Happy Giant’s job is to put the sun into the sky every morning, but he can only be woken by a special alarm, and the goblins steal the key, and the clock stops…. There is no more sunlight, the land is cold and dark - nothing grows, and the birds stop singing. Will the giant ever wake again...? Stories based around Scottish landmarks.
SAT 7 JUN DANCING MARIONETTES * PUPPET MAKING WORKSHOP 10.00AM
Make your very own dancing string marionette from simple materials, a ball for the head, flowing fabric and a simple string mechanism, a simple puppet and a great way to introduce children to this delightful art-form. Your puppet will not only be able to dance it can do handstands too…
SAT 7 JUN HOTEL MARIONETTE * SOKOBAUNO THEATRE 2.00PM
Full of comical and bizarre events; meet juggling marionettes, a pianist with a twist up his grand piano, and a clown who just can’t keep his head on! Not to mention a rather furry hotel receptionist and the hotel proprietor, Mr Leavemealony......

BIRTHDAY PARTIES AT SMPC
Why not book a birthday party in conjunction with a Saturday performance (3yrs +) or book a birthday party puppet-making workshop for 5yrs + with some extra parental support or 7 yrs + with birthday parents. We provide the party food, organise the show party games and give each child a party bag to take away. We ask that you bring the cake…. and the kids. We do the rest and afterwards we’ll clear up all the mess, while you go home and have a nice cup of tea.
RECYCLING PUPPET MAKING CAN YOU HELP?
At SMPC we like to recycle as much as we can and are always on the lookout for scrap fabric and dressmaking leftovers, wine corks make great puppet noses as do bottle tops and knitting wools make great puppet hair….etc. If you have any materials you no longer need and would like to have a clear out or save up your wine corks for us, please drop them in at the Puppet Centre any show Saturday via the back door ramp entrance. We are sure to put them to good use.

Shows suitable for 3 yrs and upwards. Reservations 0141 339 6185. All tickets must be collected at least 15 minutes before the start of the performance. Payment is by cash or cheque on the door on the day. If necessary, cancellation of a reservation by 11am on the day of the performance allows someone else to take your place. Thank you.
